Cakes From The Heart began with a simple belief: everyone deserves to feel celebrated on their special day.
Founder Pat Vandersee, a lifelong Iowan blessed with a large and loving family, discovered just how meaningful a homemade cake could be, especially for those who might not otherwise receive one.

In 2013, Pat began volunteering with a national organization called Birthday Cakes 4 Free, where she and her daughter Jamie helped bring birthday joy to children and seniors facing financial or social barriers. When that organization closed in 2019, Pat’s passion didn’t fade… instead, it grew.

Determined to continue serving her community, Pat established Cakes From The Heart as an Iowa‑based 501(c)(3) nonprofit later that same year. What started as a single volunteer chapter has blossomed into a network of generous volunteers across multiple counties who are all baking from the heart to ensure every person feels valued and remembered. Pat’s own family, her daughter and granddaughter, both volunteer and hold leadership roles within the organization. 

Today, Cakes From The Heart continues to share kindness, connection, and celebration, one cake at a time.
